I think it's mentioned in the liner notes of the CD release, that John wanted to put Hitler in there.
I remember that. I think he wanted to put Ghandi in too. |

A cut-out of Hitler was made for inclusion on the LP cover but I don't think it was ever used - if you look at the out-takes from the photo-shoot Hitler cannot be seen and so I don't think he is obscured by John, Ringo, Paul or George; he remained propping up the wall! |

Ghandi WAS actually used but was painted out before the album was released. Look just above the head of the Diana Dors wax-work on the far right. |

It was wise to exclude Hitler. |

george wanted ghandi, leo gorcey of the bowery boys fame was removed because he wanted to be paid....john wanted hitler and also jesus christ but brian vetoed them....it seems my sargent peppers book is called the souvenir and is writ by none other than my buddy bill harry...imagine that...it has 20 interesting facts in it... the album was oringinally to be about their childhood memories of liverpoolstrawberry feilds and penny lane we penned to promote this theme.....the first choice was to be doctor peppers lonley heart club band but it was discovered that there was a soft drink in america already called doctor pepper.....paul suggested they dress up in salvation army uniforms to promote the album but the rest talked him out of it......the beatles had planned to make a tv spectacular to tie in with the release of the album but it was never made..........brian didn't like the idea of the cover, which paul described to him and on his return trip from new york to london he believed his plane would crash and he would be killed,so he wrote a note to the groups american attorney, nat weiss which read brown paper jackets for sargent peppers lonley hearts club band, referring to the album sleeve......the late mal evans,is said to have thought up the name and had a hand in some of the writing of the song and altho undcredited recieved royalties for the song....he also contributed to fixing a hole..........the whole sargent peppers theme was pauls idea........the album cost 25,000 pounds or 40,000 dollars.....but i don't want to bore you with the other stuff in there....raxo knows all this stuff anyways...ask him....he told me |

sargent pepper took 700 hours to record...radio london,a pirate station was the first station in the world to play the entire album......the press party for the album was held at brians house in chapel street,mayfair........peter blake designed the drum skin, there were two versions made, the one used on the album went to john the other to paul.......getting better was a phrase paul heard jimmy nicol often use on tour b4 when he replaced ringo,he use to say it's getting better.....lead vocals to shes leaving home were shared by john and paul and double tracked to give it a quartet sound, the music was scored by mike leander as george martin was busy producing cilla black, the beatles played no instruments on this song......it also lists most of those on the cover altho it is not known who they all are.....i have 7 versions of this album and an alternate....the mono one is probally worth the most... |
