I cant believe how overrated the Beatles are. Back in them days people had nothing else of any standard whatsoever, which makes the average Beatles look like gods. In today's musical world they would come and go without anyone batting an eyelid.

ps. I appreciate i'm new here but I'm curious as to why exactly the Beatles are considered so great

Yeah well I guess if you live Matchbox 20, or Nickelback or something, the beatles wouldn't seem great. The Best thing about The Beatles is the way their songs make you feel, simple as they may be.

I mean I dare you to find a song that compares with "long and winding road" or "In My Life"  Todays standards just pop out songs that don't mean Jack S***. They're just pretty words thrown together. The Beatles Meant something.

Today's music? I thought that don't existed.

Oh! I remember now, last night I saw some girl, her name was Britney Spears (I think), and she was "singing" (I think) something caled toxic.... (yeah, it was great )

P.S.
Well at least she writes and plays her own "music", doesn't she?

Maybe the most retarded thing I have ever read on any forum. If you have to ask why the Beatles were considered great, then you obviously dont know enough about music for me to even explain. You dont have to like them, but you must respect them.

The replies so far are, I feel, just as thoughtless as the initial post. To recap, we started with this:

I cant believe how overrated the Beatles are. Back in them days people had nothing else of any standard whatsoever, which makes the average Beatles look like gods. In today's musical world they would come and go without anyone batting an eyelid.
ps. I appreciate i'm new here but I'm curious as to why exactly the Beatles are considered so great

which is unthinking because (to give two reasons) (1) nothing can be of “no standard”; (2) they still exist in “today’s musical world”, and they certainly cause some eyelids to bat!

But our hero does ask why the Beatles are considered so great. Mostly, what he gets in reply is rudeness:

So you  consider today's music better??OMG, I laugh at thee. Pompous as well as rude!

Today's music? I thought that don't existed.
Oh! I remember now, last night I saw some girl, her name was Britney Spears (I think), and she was "singing" (I think) something caled toxic.... (yeah, it was great )
followed by that cute vomit icon.

Maybe the most retarded thing I have ever read on any forum. If you have to ask why the Beatles were considered great, then you obviously dont know enough about music for me to even explain. You dont have to like them, but you must respect them. The thread starter could reply: thanks for the rudeness, but tell me why must I respect them.

Beatle Ed was nicer: Yeah well I guess if you live Matchbox 20, or Nickelback or something, the beatles wouldn't seem great.
She attempts to explain how the Beatles make her feel (pity she knocks a couple of groups in the process), and names a couple of Fab songs. Pity about her gutter mouth, which is once again in evidence.

So: WHY are the Beatles considered so great? See the next post ...

I don’t care if the thread-starter was trolling, or really wants to know why the Beatles are considered great. It’s interesting to try and think it through. Here are some reasons why I think their reputation is enormous 40 years on.

(1) In the period 1962 – 1965, Lennon/McCartney wrote dozens of amazing rock ‘n’ roll songs. The Beatles were breathtaking in their energy and drive. Their group playing was almost always superb. Their singing is wonderful (and was there a rock voice better than Lennon’s?). Their lyrics developed from admittedly being pretty simple and often shallow (Love Me Do, I Want To Hold Your Hand) to having surprising depth (Help, No Reply, Ticket To Ride).

(2) In their middle years 1965 – 1968, their developing maturity as creative studio musicians left a battery of recordings that set new standards in popular music. They were part inventors of a new genre, psychedelic rock, or “acid rock”. They certainly took that genre to great heights with songs such as Rain, Strawberry Fields Forever, I’m Only Sleeping and Tomorrow Never Knows.

Along with Dylan (who was a little less accessible), they made it repectable for popular songs to “say” something. They left the trite teen love song far behind with works like Norwegian Wood, Nowhere Man, I’m Looking Through You, Eleanor Rigby, Taxman, For No One, A Day In the Life, ... and the list goes on.

(3) Thought their last year or two (1968 and 1969) as a group must have been distressing for all of them, still they managed some great songs that have stood the test of time. Rock, ballads, avant garde, they were masters of it all: Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Let It Be, Across The Universe, Come Together, Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps ... listen to their last three albums, but especially 1968’s White Album.

(4) One of the group, George Harrison, through some of his music and songs with the group, was largely responsible for making the West aware of Indian music, and some Indian religious philosophy. Another, John Lennon, was increasingly a spokesman for the “peace movement”.

So mongtards, there are some reasons why they’re considered so great!

Mongtards, I think that being curious about why people think the Beatles are so great is something that gives you hope! Hehe.  If you don’t mind me asking what kind of music you enjoy then that might give us all a little insight on why you don’t find The Beatles to your tastes.  I think that if you look around the forum you may find some interesting facts as why the Beatles were so great in others eyes and ears.  You probably will never like to listen to them by your post but I think the point is for you to see why everyone else liked them.

I myself welcome you to the forum. I think you would almost be good to spark some healthy debate among people and get the boards flowing.  However, being rude about the Beatles and disrespecting those who find them entertaining and great is not the way to go about learning of them.  Your first post should have been along the lines of..

<<I have listened to the Beatles and I do not understand why people love them so much. Why are they so great?>>

I think that would have gotten better posts.

But if you can be nice then I think you are welcome here.  ::cough:: right guys? Hehe.

Beatle Ssarah on the forum,
Everyday she posts some more on.

I am sorry if I appeared rude, it wasn't my intention. All I wanted to do was put accross my thoughts as clearly as I could.
It's a given that I wont have heard/experienced the Beastles as much as you lot for the simple reason - you are fans, I am not. But from clips from old, nostalgic TV documentaries I fail to see the attraction. Maybe, as you say, I should listen to more before I comment any further.

As for music I like: The Darkness, Blink 182, The Calling umm, Beyonce and Britney too -  all make some good music.

It's almost impossible to explain to someone who wasn't there what the attraction was.  Hell, one of the attractions was that the Beatles made everything that came before them...including Elvis...look old and dated and...boring.  So you have described a pretty universal thing.

Now they seem tame, but at the time NO ONE had ever done anything the way they did, and it was exciting, new, and fresh.  Of course, by now it has been superceded by 40 years of stuf that they helped break open way back when.

(Heck, show biz is so spangly now but back then it was still like carny-ville).

ok well it's clear to see the majority here don't want to accept a differing point of view from their own so i'll leave this topic now. Maybe i'll lurk for a while and see what makes you lot tick and come back with something you'll accept.

You must understand that you will encounter a lot of resistance due to the nature of this forum.  Coming to a Beatle forum and stating how overrated something we hold dear is only asking for trouble.  Perhaps if you posted your questions differently it would have received different responses.   My simple suggestion is to listen to their music.  If it doesn't suit you....fine.  The Beatles are not for everyone.  Some people like Britney Spears and that's fine with me.  But for me personally, no one can tell me today's music offers more quality of than the Beatles.  I honestly hope you stick around.  The people here are really great.  IMHO.
